Venetian Vignette

Venetian Vignette is an interactive installation that uses field recording from Venice to create a cohesive amalgamation of the city as a soundscape.

The work highlights the immense dynamic, timbral, and spatial change that exists within the city: splashes in back alley canals, songs out windows, droning horns of fisherman on strike, chitter-chat of cafes, cacophony of bands in St. Marks Square, and -of course- the quarter hourly eruption of syncopated bells, as churches act as clocks across the city.

The performance that emerges is an ethnographic sound study of Venice. A listener through exploration, can begin to ask questions and discover answers about Venice– and cities in general– through performing the work.
